What Does Participation Entail?
In Person
You will come on the day of the participant’s visit and complete an interview about your loved one’s cognitive abilities and daily life.
Topics will include:
- Your relationship to the participant
- Memory
- Hobbies
- Judgment and problem solving
Remote
- Up to an hour-long phone call where we will discuss your loved one and any changes you may have noticed.
- Interview will cover the same topics as the In-Person option.
Who Can be a Companion?
- Must know the participant well.
-More than 3 hours per month of contact
- Can provide information about participant’s habits, abilities and routines.
- Willing to complete 3 remote or in person visits at baseline, 18 months, and 36 months.
Why Are Companions So Important?
- Companions help to supplement information given by the participant
- An outside view can help us to understand participant’s views of their selves
- Given the correlation between CADASIL and memory loss, companions can help fill in context that participants may have forgotten
